Eero Saksman defended his thesis at University of Helsinki in 1994. After professorships at Tampere Technical University and University of Jyväskylä, he returned to Helsinki,  where he works as a professor in mathematics since 2007. Saksman's research deals with variety of topics, including (random and deterministic) conformal geometry, harmonic analysis and PDE's, Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, probability and analytic number theory. Saksman was the President of the Finnish Mathematical Society in 2016-2020.
